It’s never too late to start.
If you’re an adult who didn’t have the opportunity to learn as a child - or you’re returning to the cello after years away - you’re in the right place. And if you have a budding young musician at home, they’re very welcome too.
I’ll meet you exactly where you are and help you move forward with clarity and confidence. Every student brings their own story. That’s why each lesson is tailored to your goals:
🎵 Build secure technique
🎵 Understand how music really works
🎵 Explore creativity and improvisation
You can expect purposeful, manageable steps that save months of guessing. There’s no pressure for perfection here - mistakes are part of learning and welcomed on the pathway to growth.
Warm, encouraging and rooted in musical excellence - let’s discover where the cello can take you.
I'm a dedicated music educator with over 25 years' instrumental teaching experience. As well as my private teaching practice in Swavesey on the Fen Edge of Cambridge, I work with cellists at The Perse and St Mary's Schools.
2021 Certificate for Music Educators
2015 Diploma in Cello Teaching (Distinction)
2008 Postgraduate Certificate in Music
1998 BA (Hons) in Music (University of Bristol)
1992 Grade 8 Cello (Distinction)
1992 Grade 8 Piano
I pursue my own performance work, with a particular focus on private events. From 2021 to 2023, I was proud to serve as principal cellist of the Cambridge Philharmonic. I now perform primarily with the Rose Quartet, providing music for weddings and events. Recent performances have taken place at venues including the Fitzwilliam Museum, Ely Cathedral and Anglesey Abbey.
I play a handmade 20th century English cello, built from sycamore and modelled on the "Batta" Stradivarius design.
Message me with a little information about the student and what days and times might suit. We'll take it from there.
